Ana Egge's Road to My Love Travels Well

Posted: July 29th, 2010 at 3:31 pm | By: Craig Shelburne

I've been carrying Ana Egge's Road to My Love album around with me for a couple of months now. Her enticing voice draws me right into her songs, which are often soft-spoken and beautifully vivid. So whenever I just need to chill out, this is the album I've been reaching for -- and it's really nice on solo drives, too. The project starts with "Storm Comin'," which builds gradually, just like a mid-afternoon summer rain. Later, "Quitting Early" rises and falls like a relaxing breathing exercise. Egge grew up in North Dakota and now lives in Brooklyn and both locales clearly influence her craft. "Bully of New York" is vividly written about crossing paths with a Central Park ranger with a heavy heart, while "Farmer's Daughter" describes that wanderlust that comes from living on the prairie. Her true gift is being able to write about all this without boring me to tears.
I remember when she put out River in the Road in the late 1990s, we both happened to live in Austin, Texas, and I'd go hear her play at a little coffee shop by Zilker Park. Since then, I've always figured she'd find a champion to help her get her folksy music out there. And finally, this week, she announced that Steve Earle will be producing her next album. Very cool. Perhaps next year at this time, a lot more listeners will be keeping her music within reach.

UK tour, Steve Earle news - July 13, 2010

Hello Hello-
I've been having a blast on the road with my friend Joel Plaskett. Playing in his band and singing. Mostly rockin the mandola, which I've missed so much since my teens playing bluegrass in the Down To Earth School band. Our first day over here in the UK we recorded a new song of his at Abbey Road.. since then we've opened for Jools Holland for nearly 9,000 people, played a basement in Bristol and rocked the Garage last night in London. Now we're on our way to Edinburgh for a show tomorrow night at the Voodoo Room.

Steve Earle is producing my new album this Fall and we're recording it at Levon Helm's studio in Woodstock. I couldn't be more pleased with the stars right now. Thank you Universe!

Join me in London for a solo show at the Green Note this Thursday, July 15th. I love this intimate, great sounding room. It's handled with care by it's music loving owners and the food is delicious!
See you on down the road,
Ana

News APR. 2010 - April 28, 2010

For Immediate Release
April 27, 2010

SINGER-SONGWRITER ANA EGGE RETURNS TO TOUR
TAKING ROAD TO MY LOVE TO THE KERRVILLE FOLK FEST, AUSTIN, COLORADO, NEW MEXICO, CANADA AND EUROPE

After finishing up her current NYC residency at the Living Room, singer-songwriter Ana Egge heads back to Texas for the beloved Kerrville Folk Fest on May 27th. Egge will continue to tour with a stop at the Ghost Room in her adopted hometown of Austin on June 2nd. From there Ana will play several dates in Colorado and New Mexico before heading on to Europe with Joel Plaskett in July.

In other exciting news, U.S. Airways will also feature Ana’s music and an interview with her during July and August as part of their in-flight entertainment channel.

Ana grew up a farmer’s daughter in Ambrose, North Dakota (pop. 23). When Ana was a teen, her family moved to Silver City New Mexico where they started their own progressive school. After finishing school, learning to build her own house and guitar, Ana moved to Austin, TX where she recorded her first album, River Under the Road, for which she garnered two Austin Music Awards for Best Folk Artist and Best Singer-Songwriter. The Austin Chronicle proclaimed River Under The Road “A debut masterpiece worthy of a songwriter decades worldlier than this mere twenty-year old soul.”

Ana followed up her entrée with the release of four more solo albums that include Mile Marker, 101 Sundays, Out Past The Lights, and an album of covers celebrating the art of laziness, Lazy Days. Throughout Ana has toured consistently, sharing the stage with the likes of Lucinda Williams, George Jones, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Shawn Colvin and Ron Sexsmith to name only a few.

2009 proved to be a busy year for Ana with the release of Road To My Love, the sixth and most soulful album to date, from the critically acclaimed folk-rock songwriter, vocalist and accomplished guitarist. American Songwriter magazine described Egge’s voice as “Honeysuckle…dripping with the strains of Lucinda Williams and Ron Sexsmith.” In support of the new CD, Ana embarked on a solo tour across the U.S and toured throughout Canada and Europe with Canadian hit maker Joel Plaskett (Ana sang on 19 tracks on his latest release). In an incredible career highlight, Ana joined Joel opening for Sir Paul McCartney.

Currently writing songs for a new album to be recorded later this year, Ana will continue to tour on the heels of Road To My Love. Egge has also contributed a cover of Sara Hickman’s song “Joy” for the upcoming benefit compilation Best of Times. The CD features a host of great artists and will be released by Hickman with the proceeds going to the organizations TAP & Big Thought!, two non-profits that bring theatre, music, art and creative writing to children in local Texas schools.

New Year - January 5, 2010

Well, it's a new year. I'm already feeling totally and completely different. Not exactly but my mood did lighten today around 8:30am. I've started writing a screenplay and that's a fun project. Looking forward to completing the next batch of new songs so that I can begin recording my new album or original songs. New York City is very cold, but full of comfortably kind people if you're asking the right questions...
All the best to you in 2010.
love and light,
Ana
